Ensuring You Are Protected
The Therapeutic Goods Administration is a division of the Australian Department of Health and Ageing entrusted with the regulation of all medical products and medicines supplied throughout Australia.
In this way, Australian government strives to ensure that all medical devices, medicines, and therapeutic goods are appropriate for the public, non-harmful, and easily accessible.
How Do You Know?
All medicines and therapeutic goods listed by the TGA have a number clearly displayed on their packaging. This is called an "AUST L" number. Pregnancy and Ovulation Tests are required to be listed on the ARTG and should therefore have an AUST L number.
The Dangers of Non TGA Listed Goods
Consumers are able to search for products listed in the ARTG online. This is very useful with online purchases of medical supplies as some unscrupulous sellers may post invalid AUST L numbers, or steal those from listed products to apply to their own products.
Buying anything online is a risk, but especially so when it comes to medical supplies. Whilst the quality of pregnancy tests you find only can vary, you might find the best price. When you buy medical supplies or medicine online, make sure to check the seller's location. Anyone outside of Australia is probably not selling ARTG listed supplies. Also, check to see if the packaging is in a foreign language, or is badly translated into English.
